Air-IT Nottingham v BM Worms – Match Report

This morning Air-IT Nottingham began their quest for the European Club Championship title at their home, Nottingham Squash Rackets Club. An unfavourable draw saw a 9am start against the current holders BM Worms and what looked on paper an uphill struggle.

A great performance from Mark Fuller against Tim Weber (WR 156) set the team on its way though as he played fast yet controlled squash on his way to a commanding 3/1 win. Lewis Walters Salming vs Nick Matthew Dunlop

Meanwhile Lewis Walters at #1 string was understandably struggling against the current World and Commonwealth Games Champion Nick Matthew. He did have chances in a very close 2nd game though which could have gone either way.

Chris Fuller also had chances in the first game of his match against the much higher ranked Frenchman Greg Marche (WR 26). Again he failed to convert this into a point for the team though and was left disappointed with a 3/0 loss even if his performance showed encouraging signs for the rest of the week.

So it was left to #4 string Ollie Holland to try to rescue something for the team against Carsten Schoor (WR 275). At 2/1 down after the first three games it didn’t look good but a slight change of tactics and some digging in deep took him over the line 3/2.

Air-IT Nottingham drew with BM Worms 2/2

#1 Lewis Walters lost to Nick Matthew 0/3 (7/11 12/14 8/11)

#2 Chris Fuller lost to Greg Marche 0/3 (9/11 4/11 8/11)

#3 Mark Fuller beat Tim Weber 3/1 (11/7 11/3 9/11 11/4)

#4 Ollie Holland beat Carsten Schoor 3/2 (11/7 6/11 9/11 11/6 11/6)

So a very credible draw to start the Air-IT Nottingham campaign. Next up is our last group match against the Irish team Fitzwilliam before a likely mouth-watering quarter final against Paderborner, the #2 seeded German Champions tomorrow evening at 19:00 at Nottingham Squash Rackets Club...

It is free to come down and support and bound to be another great battle at Nottingham Squash Rackets Club.
